had to transfer this para mas ma answeran mayo and para specific ang topic...
here is my take on venom potency regarding tarantulas
new world t's like brachypelma, grammostolla etc etc venom potency are a bit ok some bite reports i've read the pain lasted 3-4 hours
old world t's like the baboons, pokies, pslamopeous, skeleton t's, etc etc venom potency are a bit higher since their main defense is there bite.
but then again you are still at risk even if they are new world t's you still run the risk of having a really bad allergic reaction to the venom..not effects are base on one mans point of view since everybody have different genetic build. that being said would like to tell you the story of what happened in cebu he was bitten by a not so potent venomous tarantula, and was in a coma for 4-5 days i cant remember the days he was out...always expect the worst case scenarios in handling a t..up till now i still stand by the code of "NO TOUCH JUST WATCH" policy..it can save your life and your tarantula from what i heard all the kid's tarantula was killed by his mom.

I've read in one of the website i saw, that some T's just do dry bite if provoked or threatened and will only release venom if the t needs to eat the prey.. i dunno, haven't exp being bitten yet so far..
