Sir scorpions do not eat raw meat if you mean by "raw" the ones sold in the market. Their main diet consists of insects, mice and small lizards; anything that they can overpower with their pedipalp or by the use of their telson with the injection of venom. Regarding your other question "how do they sense food?". Well, they sense food/prey with their pedipalp. The pedipalp is divided into: coxa, trachanter, femur, patella, tibia and tarsus. The tibia and tarsus forms the chelae of the pedipalp. The pedipalp contains many hairs (setae). It is divided into 3 types of which; one type is sensory and named as trichobothria. The trichobothria are erectile and unidirectional in mobilty so that combined information of differently aligned trichobothria gives a spatial perception of disturbance in air current. Used to grasp prey and for defense against predators. Also employed to grasp female chelae while mating. Here are some pictures of the pedipalp borrowed from other sites: Hope this helps answer your question REFERENCE: web.singnet.com.sg/~chuaeecc/anat/anat1.htm, www.biodiversityexplorer.org/arachnids/scorpions/morphology.htm, exoticpets.about.com/cs/scorpions/a/scorpionanatomy.htm

i've tried raw fish before (last resort) and yeah i saw my emp eating/sucking from it for few minutes, maybe she just grab some drink from it.haha anyway, for me and based on research, its not advisable to feed them with raw foods, especially if were talking about mites and diseases. Scorpions are silent hunter, i mean that, they wait for their prey by recognizing vibration on the ground.
Damu naman feeders di sa BCD ah. No need to get some raw food.

how do they sense dead insects?? there's no vibrations at all and mostly scorpions will not attack if the prey is not moving..

I have not yet done a full extensive research/observations on scorpions but in my own opinion. They use the pectines which is situated ventrally on the second mesosoma that are comb-like organs found only in scorpions that has a sensory function, also the purpose of the said organ is still unclear but it appears to detect pheromones or to determine the correct substrate to deposit the spermatophore during mating or to sense for food items that are not moving(dead insects). Also scorpions do have eyes but the eyes are not included in the external morphology of scorpions since most cave dwelling (triglobitic) species like Sotanochactas elliotti, eyes are absent. Pictures borrowed from other site: Pectine Sotanochactas elliotti: absence of eyes Androctonus australis: presence of eyes But then again this is just an opinion it's still unclear to all of us. I could be wrong. Who knows? Right? Reference:
